BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Higher Education Minister Syed Raza Ali Gilani on Wednesday said that government is paying special attention to the provision of quality education to the students of South Punjab and has established new universities in Bahawalpur and Multan for this purpose.
The minister was speaking at the 12th convocation of the Islamia University Bahawalpur, at which he had been invited as chief guest. He congratulated the graduating students and urged them to use their expertise and knowledge for the betterment of the country and nation.
He said that the youth of Pakistan had immense potential, adding that the government was investing highly in education for this reason. He said that the country’s youth was the country’s biggest hope to overcome the huge challenges it faced in the global economy.
Speaking about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Gilani said that the project was a huge game-changer and that it would provide the youth of the country with great opportunities to develop their careers.
The minister also urged the faculty members to take the lead in imparting quality education to students to enable them to meet the challenges of the modern age.
He congratulated Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq for transforming the university into a hub of collaborative academic and research activities in three years. He expressed hope that the university would soon be among the top universities of the country, adding that the Punjab government had decided to include IUB’s name among those universities which would be upgraded for international ranking.
Speaking at the occasion, the vice-chancellor said that the university’s ranking had improved greatly and that it currently stood at the eleventh position in national ranking and sixth in research in Punjab due to its success in finishing different mega developmental and educational projects.
