QUETTA: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Quetta granted bail to Nawabzada Gazain Marri in a case regarding the former Balochistan home minister’s alleged links with banned militant organisations.
ATC Judge Dawood Nasar accepted the bail application of the former Balochistan home minister and ordered him to submit a surety bond worth Rs 300,000. Advocate Arbab Tahir, the counsel for Marri, appeared before the court on his behalf.
Gazain, son of the late nationalist leader of Balochistan Khair Baksh Marri, had been in a self-imposed exile in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the past 18 years.
Marri is a suspect in the murder of Balochistan High Court (BHC) Justice Nawaz Marri in addition to being an alleged facilitator of the banned militant organisation Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).
Marri has already been granted bail in the murder case of Justice Nawaz Marri by a district and sessions court.
The former home minister returned from the UAE only after receiving protective bail from the Sindh High Court. He was, however, arrested soon after he landed at Quetta airport due to several cases against him. His lawyers filed an application for the confirmation of the protective bail but the court rejected the application.
Earlier in June, Gazain had confirmed his plans of ending his self-imposed exile and also said that he will face the cases against him.
“I am returning to my country after spending 18 years in exile on Sept 22,” he had said, adding that nobody should be afraid of his return as he was not bringing a tank or a force with him.
He explained that he had gone into exile on his father’s instructions.
