LAHORE: A high-level meeting under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif decided on Wednesday that the Punjab government would celebrate Eid Milad-un-Nabi with befitting religious fervour throughout the province.
Members of the meeting also reviewed the security arrangements made for the occasion.
Addressing the meeting, the Punjab chief minister said that Eid Milad-un-Nabi would be held with full religious fervour and passion, and special ceremonies will be held in every district of the province. He directed the concerned officials to arrange special programmes on the eve of Eid Milad-un-Nabi across the province. He said that mosques, shrines and other buildings would be illuminated and gave directions for the best arrangements to be made in this regard.
The chief minister also directed for special arrangements to be made with regard to the cleanliness of streets and bazaars. He said that naat and qirat competitions, as well as essay writing competitions on the life of the Holy Prophet (SAW), would be arranged, adding that the winners of these competitions would be awarded prizes.
He emphasised the need for fool-proof security arrangements to be ensured throughout the province for the protection of all religious ceremonies taking place. He said that there was no higher priority than the protection of people’s lives and properties and, therefore, directed all law enforcement agencies to remain fully vigilant during the celebrations of Eid Milad-un-Nabi. He added that, following the sunnah of the Prophet, we all need to promote the message of peace, brotherhood, unity and cohesion.
Those attending the meeting included provincial ministers Rana Sanaullah, Manshaullah Butt, Zaeem Hussain Qadri and Jehangir Khanzada, Punjab government spokesman Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, chief secretary, additional chief secretary (home), inspector general of police and other concerned officials.
