Sindh shuts over 2,000 unregistered seminaries

According to a report compiled on the geo-tagging of religious seminaries in Sindh, more than 2,000 unregistered and illegal seminaries have been shut out of which 97 were found to be involved in suspicious activities.

57 seminaries involved in suspicious activities were also closed.

The report further informed about the existence of 7,444 registered seminaries across Sindh with 547,000 students currently enrolled in them out of which 818 students are foreigners.

In Karachi, 3,733 religious seminaries are operating out of which 623 have been closed. In Hyderabad, 910 seminaries were closed leaving behind 1,291 seminaries in operation. 750 seminaries are in operation in Mirpurkhas after shutting down of 281 seminaries. In Sukkur, 420 seminaries have been shut down leaving behind only 1,256 seminaries and in Larkana, 1,037 seminaries are currently operating after shutting down of 75.
