Pakistan has to move forward, cannot face chaos anymore: Marriyum

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb on Tuesday said that the country faced chaos for two whole weeks due to the Faizabad Interchange sit-in that was staged by the Tehreek Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR) workers.

She said that Pakistan has to move forward by forgetting all the issues and that the country cannot afford to face a situation as chaotic as that anymore.

Responding to a question about the resignation of the law minister, Marriyum Aurangzeb said sacrifices have to be given for the sake of the State.

She was talking to the media while former prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar were in court for the hearing of Azizia Steel Mills, London flats and Flagship Investment references.

Maryam Aurangzaib said that the citizens heaved a sigh of relief over the ending of the Islamabad sit-in protest.

Earlier, the ousted PM Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz appeared before the graft court for the Al Azizia Steel Mills case-related hearings amid tight security. Captain (r) Safdar was also present for the hearing.

The hearing was adjourned by an accountability court on the request of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. During the hearing, Nawaz Sharif maintained that the accountability court’s proceedings should be suspended until the Islamabad High Court (IHC)’s decision regarding the clubbing of references is announced.

On November 23, the high court had reserved its judgement on a petition by the ousted premier to club the references against him.

Nawaz and his family are facing three corruption references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in light of the Supreme Court’s July 28 judgment in the Panama Papers case.

Nawaz and his two sons, Hussain and Hasan, are nominated in all three references whereas Maryam and Safdar are only accused in one.
