IGP seeks report on death caused by police ‘torture’

LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Arif Nawaz Khan on Tuesday took notice of the death of a
youth due to alleged police torture in Faisalabad.

The police had arrested the victim named Boota on Monday night and subjected him to torture all night which resulted in his death. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

The IGP sought a report from Regional Police Officer (RPO) Faisalabad Bilal Siddique within 24 hours. He said that torture during investigation or police custody would not be tolerated at any cost.

He said that strict action would be taken against officials found guilty of committing the crime.
