RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) Food Control Department has imposed fines amounting to Rs 300,000 on food outlets for unhygienic food and poor cleanliness conditions, while the anti-encroachment teams also confiscated 24 truckload goods of encroachers during last 10 days.
According to RCB spokesman Qaiser Mahmood, RCB teams on the directive of the Cantonment Executive Officer Dr Saima Shah conducted surprise raids at different food outlets in Mughalabad, Kiani Road, Tench Bhatta, Peoples Colony, Dhoke Chaudharian, Bakra Mandi Road, Saddar, Chor, Masrial Road and other areas and collected 127 food samples, which were sent to a lab for quality tests.
Fines of Rs 300,000 were imposed on food outlets including restaurants, hotels, bakeries, refreshment centres, milk, meat, and sweet shops besides others by the Judicial Magistrate Cantonment under 23PF Act and Deputy Cantonment Executive Officer on various violations.
The RCB team also visited several food outlets and issued 81 of them notices on poor cleanliness. They were also instructed to maintain a healthy standard and warned that strict action would be taken against the violators.
Spokesman Qaiser Mahmood also said that raids on food outlets would continue, adding that teams were directed to check the health of the workers serving at the food outlets as well.
Meanwhile, the RCB anti-encroachment team confiscated 24 truckloads of goods from different markets in its operation against encroachments.
The anti-encroachment team confiscated handcarts, tables, counters and other goods from Saddar, Tench Bhatta, Masrial Road, Peoples Colony, Gawalmandi, Chor, Chungi Number 22 and other areas.
“The operation is being conducted on a daily basis while permanent and temporary encroachments, as well as illegal banners and posters, are being removed from different areas,” said Qaiser.
