KARACHI: Taking serious notice of the murder of a newly married couple committed on the orders of a Jirga in Mominabad, the Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah directed Inspector General of Police (IGP) AD Khowaja to give him a detailed report and arrest all the persons involved.
He said that this is a metropolitan city, not a tribal area where jirgas are held. “I would not allow such kind of barbarianism here,” he said and directed IG to start crackdown against such criminals. He also directed IGP to take action against the police officers who failed to perform their duty.
Expressing displeasure, CM Shah directed Karachi Package project director (PD) to expedite construction of a U-turn at Shahrah-e-Faisal, otherwise, he would take strict action.
This he said while presiding over a meeting to review some schemes of Karachi Package which were delayed for one or the other reasons. The meeting was attended by P&D Chairman Mohammad Waseem, Principal Secretary to CM Sohail Rajput, Finance Secretary Hassan Naqvi, Karachi Package PD Niaz Soomro and Karachi Package Engineer Khalid Masroor.
The chief minister said that the work on the construction of U-turn at Nathakhan Bridge has not been taken up so far. As a result, traffic jam at that area has become an order of the day. “Do you have any idea how much problem people in the area are facing?” he asked and directed the P&D Chairman Mohammad Waseem to visit the area along with PD and engineer of the project and get the work started and report to him.
It may be noted that the chief minister has already released Rs214.466 million for the construction of the project and other works. “When the funds have been released, why the work has been delayed?” he asked and sent his team led by Mohammad Waseem to see the situation and report to him.
Murad also said that the underpass at Submarine Chowrangi has not been completed so far. “I want to open one of its tracks on December 15, and on the same day, I would perform stone laying ceremony of the flyover at Sunset Boulevard,” he said and added that the work on Sunset Boulevard flyover must be completed within three months of the start of the project.
He also directed the local government department to maintain the beauty of Shahrah-e-Faisal by planting more trees. “Shahrah-e-Faisal is the face of the city and it must be beautiful, neat and clean and illuminated,” he added.
Principal Secretary Sohail Rajput informed the chief minister that he had held a meeting with some architects for face uplifting of the areas falling on Shahrah-e-Faisal. “The architects would start beautification work within 10 days,” he said.
The chief minister also directed the Karachi Package PD to start a survey of the roads of the old city of Lyari such as Lee Market, Mitha Dar, Khara Dar, Jhuna Market, Cheel Chowk, Kalakot and other areas, and said, “I am allocating Rs600 million for the reconstruction of the roads.”
He further directed the PD to reconstruct their drainage system also.
CM Shah also directed the PD to reconstruct the roads leading to Jamaat Khan at Kharadar. “I would review the progress of the works,” he said.
