If it improves situation, no harm in accepting resignations: Raja Zafar

ISLAMABAD: Leader of the House in the Senate Raja Zafar-ul-Haq said on Sunday if the move improves law and order situation in the country, there was no harm in accepting resignations from federal government ministers.

However, he added, some people fear the protesters’ demands will increase if resignations are taken.

“Efforts were being made to hold talks with the Faizabad protesters,” he said.

Talking to a private news channel, he said a detailed session was held between him and the protesters. During the session, the formation of a committee [for negotiations] and other matters were discussed, he informed.

Haq is heading the committee formed earlier by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Nawaz Sharif to fix the responsibility for the introduction of a controversial amendment to the Finality of Prophethood declaration for electoral candidates.

Besides Haq, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Climate Change Minister Mushahidullah Khan are also part of the committee.

The committee was formed on October 7 to probe the issue as it had attracted backlash from various quarters, even though the mistake was rectified soon after the amendment was made.

The committee headed by the senator is expected to present a report related to the controversial amendment to the court on today (Monday).
