Transgender killed in Peshawar shooting incident

PESHAWAR: A transgender person who had gunshot wounds succumbed to his injuries in Peshawar on Sunday.

Unknown armed men targeted the transgender, Spogmai, in his apartment in Khyber Super Market area in the jurisdiction of Gulberg Police Station.

“A transgender was shot and shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) in a critical condition,” a police official, told a private media outlet.

Meanwhile, LRH spokesperson Asim Khan said Spogmai was undergoing treatment at the hospital after he received six bullets and later died of injuries.

The motive behind the incident could not be immediately ascertained.

It is pertinent to mention here that over 50 transgender persons have been killed across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa since 2015.
