Protests in various parts of Karachi cause roadblocks, disrupt traffic

KARACHI: Demonstrators continue to protest on the second day in various parts of the metropolis including Numaish Chowrangi, Tower, Al-Asif Square, Orangi, Landhi and Hub  River Road.  Protesters  also gathered at Nagan Chowrangi and Mausamiat blocking roads causing disruption to traffic.

Road leading to Governor House as well as the road between Teen Hatti and Jahangir Road  have been sealed by containers.

After deliberations between the protetsers and the Rangers, the route leading from Tower to  II Chundrigar was cleared, following which traffic resumed between Saddar to II Chundrigar on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the flow of traffic on Shahra-e-Faisal remains normal after it had been opened for traffic on late Saturday night.

Heavy traffic persisted on routes leading to Karimabad due to ongoing protests at Sohrab Goth on Saturday.

At least 30 people were reported injured in different incidents across Karachi on Saturday after protests sprung up in response to the government’s operation against protesters gathered in Islamabad.

Moreover, two reporters of a private news channel were injured while covering violent protests in different areas of the metropolis.

In a statement issued late Saturday afternoon, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) DG Major General Muhammad Saeed had stated that the paramilitary force had been deployed in the metropolitan to ensure peace. He also said that no one will be allowed to harm public property.
