PM Abbasi, COAS to deliberate on Islamabad sit-in today

ISLAMABAD: An important meeting between Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa is due to be held on Sunday to deliberate on the current Islamabad situation regarding the continuing Faizabad sit-in.

During the meeting, the prevailing law and order situation in the wake on the ongoing protest in the federal capital which has entered Day 21 on Sunday will come under discussion.

The amry chief cut short his visit to United Arab Emirates (UAE) and reached Pakistan on Saturday night  as the law and order situation deteriorated in the wake of the continuing Faizabad sit-in.

A notification issued in light of the request of the Islamabad Capital Territory Islamabad Administration dated November 25 issued by the ministry under Article 245 of the Constitution, read along with Sections 4 and 5 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and section 131-A of the Cr.P.C had authorised the deployment of a sufficient number of troops as to be determined by the Commander 111 Brigade with effect from November 25 until further orders.

The operation to clear Faizabad Interchange from protesters staging a sit-in which had commenced early morning on Saturday, was put on hold later in the day.

Earlier, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor while talking on a program on a local media outlet had stated that the army will act as per the instructions of the government regarding the sit-in in Islamabad.
