ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Sunday said that two police personnel injured during violent clashes between Tehreek-e-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR) protestors and the police, were still admitted in the hospital. On Saturday, police initiated a crackdown against participants of Faizabad Interchange sit-in.
According to a PIMS official, the two policemen were being given best medical services and after complete recovery they would be discharged from the hospital.
He said that a total of 216 injured persons had been shifted to the hospital, including policemen, Frontier Constabulary personnel and civilians, who mainly received injuries after being pelted with stones or due to suffocation from tear-gas.
He said that all injured persons had been discharged after receiving necessary medical treatment, while two persons had been retained.
Talking to reporters, PIMS Emergency Deputy Director Dr Farukh Kamal said that more than 100 beds had been added to the emergency department to provide best medical assistance to the injured. He said that the hospital was on high alert in anticipation of a police operation against the protesters.
He said that the hospital management had deployed additional medical and paramedical staff, along with providing additional beds in the hospital, to ensure provision of best medical cover to the injured persons besides ensuring provision of sufficient quantity of medicines.
Similarly, ambulances had also been arranged to shift the injured from Faizabad to the hospital to receive treatment during the police operation, he added.
