ISLAMABAD: Information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has stated on Saturday that district administration of the federal capital is liable to ensure convenience of the locals by restoring peace.
Statement of the minister for information and broadcasting has come in at a time of countrywide tensions owing to a security operation in Islamabad to end sit-in of two rightist movements namely, Tehreek Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah and Sunni Tehreek.
“Islamabad Administration is responsible to ensure enforcement of Islamabad High Court (IHC) order to restore public convenience in Faizabad area,” the minister of state tweeted.
The state minister stated that it is upon the administration to enforce the order of the high court. It should be noted here that the IHC had earlier ordered the federal government to end the sit-in within 24 hours, however; the ultimatum was pushed by another 24 hours and interior minister Ahsan Iqbal had assured that talks would result in resolution of the outstanding issue.
Some five meetings were convened by a delegation of the government led by Ahsan Iqbal with that of the protesters however, all ended in failure.
Interior minister had later asserted that illegal demands of the protesters would not be met including that to have Law Minister Zahid Hamid resign for presenting a controversial amendment in Elections Act 2017.
