Veteran PPP leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said Thursday that ousted prime minister and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif may contact PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari through Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Shah, adding that the doors of communication are always open.
” (But) Nawaz Sharif should not expect that the PPP would come out to save his skin, simply because he could not be trusted,” Aitzaz said while speaking on ARY News talk-show Power Play.
He said that Nawaz had a track record of conspiring against his party.
Asked why the former premier did not contact him as he needs help in the Senate unlike the National Assembly where the PML-N has a majority, Aitzaz said that maybe he was considered a ‘hardliner’ which Khursheed Shah was more straightforward.
“Nawaz Sharif should not expect that we will hold his arm. We saved him in 2014 but then see what he did with us,” he said, adding that the ousted premier might escape from the back alley.
To a query, Aitzaz said Nawaz was now repeatedly referring to the Charter of Democracy (CoD) when he had already taken several decisions unilaterally violating this treaty.
“This includes participating in the long-march for the restoration of former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, and taking part in presidential elections during retired General Musharraf’s era,” he added. To another query, Aitzaz said it was not the PPP that conspired against him or brought the Panama Leaks scandal.
