Khawaja Asif asks Zardari, Bilawal to refrain from criticising Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif on Friday tweeted that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership should avoid criticising Nawaz Sharif since retaliatory remarks from his party will affect Pakistan’s  ‘political community’.

The foreign minister said Zardari and his son (Bilawal Bhutto Zardari) should not taunt Nawaz Sharif. “Let us remain silent, even our dignity doesn’t allow us to respond to him.”

“Zardari is a wise politician. He understands all indications. May Allah keep him happy,” he added.

A well-placed source in the PPP on Thursday had told Pakistan Today that Zardari had flatly refused to meet with Nawaz, arguing that his party was “not ready to be used for saving an individual”.

“I am not interested in saving a person who only wants to serve his interests,” the source quoted the PPP co-chairman as saying.

“Nawaz Sharif is responsible for the current political situation of the country. Meeting him or shaking his hand is [out of the question],” the PPP co-chairperson stated.

Moreover, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday had lashed out at Nawaz Sharif, stating that ousted prime minister does not even know the meaning of the term ideology.

“Mian Nawaz Sharif Sahab doesn’t understand the meaning of ideology. You can change your position for your own purposes,” he said while talking to media on Thursday.

Mian Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed his desire to join hands with Zardari “unconditionally” for the sake of the constitution and improvement in the country.

Sharif had also expressed disappointment over PPP’s support for the Election (Amendment) Bill, 2017, which had sought repeal of the government’s amendment in Article 203 that enabled Sharif to become head of the PML-N after being disqualified by the apex court.
