D-8 countries hold moot to strengthen aviation sector

ISLAMABAD: The 11th two-day meeting of director generals of civil aviation of Developing-8 (D-8) countries was held on Friday at a local hotel in Islamabad, to discuss the ways and means for strengthening the aviation sector.

The meeting organised by Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCCA), the flagship Aviation organisation of the country, focused on the theme of “Adding Wings to Economic Growth and Social Uplift in D-8 Countries”.

The main objective of the meeting was to ensure that the economic growth of all the eight countries was accelerated and their social standing was also uplifted to the international level.

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Aviation Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi inaugurated the D-8 meeting on Aviation while D-8 Secretary General Syed Ali Mohammad Mousavi delivered the keynote address.

D-8 is a global cooperation among major developing countries that includes Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey. The aims of the organisation are to promote and enhance joint efforts towards achieving sustainable socio-economic development.

D-8 had also established cooperation in civil aviation through the implementation of a D-8 Civil Aviation MoU, which was adopted in September 2007. The purpose of establishing this cooperation was to enable civil aviation organisations of member states to cooperate and coordinate among themselves.

The meeting would also be attended by Aviation secretary, industry participants from D-8 countries and CEOs of aerospace industry, airlines and other major stakeholders in the field of aviation.
