LAHORE: Punjab government has issued Rs890.31 million, carved out from the Laptop and Saaf Paani scheme, to the lawmakers of ruling party to complete various uplift projects in the constituencies of as many as 20 districts, revealed a private media outlet’s report.
Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a session to contemplate on the transfer of funds from Saaf Pani and Laptop schemes. He directed authorities to allocate funds for the completion of uplift schemes in constituencies of ruling party’s lawmakers.
Following CM’s instructions, Punjab Finance Department and Planning & Development Department cut funds worth Rs440.31 million from clean water scheme and Rs450 million from laptop scheme.
According to reports, Rs10.27 million will be spent on uplift projects in Lahore, Rs60.32 million in Faisalabad, Rs10.06 mln in Nankana Sahib, Rs20.66 mln in Toba Tek Singh, Rs20.46 mln in Khanewal, Rs60.69 mln in Bahawalpur, Rs60 mln in Jhelum, Rs40.29 mln in Vehari, Rs60.06 mln in Okara and Rs160 mln in Lodhran.
Against the backdrop of transfers of funds, at least 16071 students would not get laptops this year whereas several ongoing projects of clean water in Southern Punjab will remain unfinished for an indefinite period.
