ISLAMABAD: Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua on Thursday said that Pakistan was pursuing a policy of maintaining peaceful relations with its neighbours and that it recognised the usefulness of engaging politically with the rest of the world to achieve the objectives of foreign policy.

Talking to journalists during a dinner reception at the foreign office, she said that India was not in the mood for a dialogue, adding that India had spurned every effort made by Pakistan to initiate a dialogue. However, she said, the foreign office would continue to pursue political engagements with all countries in a variety of ways.

Responding to a question, she said that visits from top officials, bilateral consultations and participation in international summits and conferences were extremely significant. They also help to bring the two discordant nations of Pakistan and India closer and allow them to understand each other’s point of view.

She added that negotiations between Pakistan and USA were an on-going process and that both countries’ governments wanted to remain engaged.
