LAHORE: In an interesting move the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Wednesday announced to recruit wrestlers and former Special Service Group (SSG) commandos to ensure the safety of its food inspectors during raids.
According to a spokesperson of the authority, at least 40 SSG commandos and 14 wrestlers would be recruited by PFA to prevent manhandling of food inspectors during crackdowns.
The decision has come at a time when incidents of PFA officers being taken hostage by restaurants and food factories had become common occurrence.
The PFA spokesperson said that former SSG commandos would accompany the director general and directors in the field, while adding that the decision was taken after increasing incidents pertaining to manhandling of PFA officials were being reported.
He further said, “PFA officials have been attacked and manhandled many times in the recent past.” The new recruits would follow a fixed diet plan to maintain their physiques and strength, the spokesperson added.
