KARACHI: A demo was organised here on Monday to protest against acute shortage of drinking water in Gwadar.

A large number of Gwadar residents, members of civil society, and political activists arrived in Karachi from Gwadar and held a protest demonstration outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) against water shortage.

Addressing the protest, speakers said that Balochistan government had completely failed to provide drinking water to the people of Gwadar. They said that they have arrived from Gwadar to Karachi covering 700km distance just to raise the issue.

They said that the residents have been suffering from water shortage for last six months and people have to wander in different areas to fetch drinking water for their children. They asked what kind of international port city is Gwadar, which cannot even supply drinking water to its citizens.

They also appealed to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to take notice of this serious issue and order urgent and practical steps to overcome it.
