ISLAMABAD: Expressing his criticism over the Abbotabbad address of the ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Monday said that Nawaz Sharif is “trying to stir people into doing his ‘ehtesab’, which is also a violation of the constitution and a call for mob justice”.

Khan took to Twitter to express his opinion on the matter.

He remarked that “NS’ ad nauseum slogan that people will do his ‘ehtesab’ is an attempt to fool all the people all the time but people cannot be fooled repeatedly. They know their role under Constitution is to elect their representatives while it is the judiciary that is tasked with upholding the law.”

He further said that the judiciary has a constitutional duty to do justice and Nawaz Sharif trying to incite people to do that for him instead is tantamount to violation of the constitution.

He concluded by tweeting that the former premier is using all means to save his Rs300 billion which he and his family have laundered and stashed abroad.

Deposed prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif kicked off his party’s mass-contact campaign ahead of 2018 general elections on Sunday by holding a rally in Abbottabad.

Nawaz, who faces corruption cases along with his children, asked for public support to challenge the top court’s decision in Panama Papers case, saying “I have come to you (the people of Abbottabad) with a request to reconsider my case.” The ousted PM, who leads the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) added, “This gathering is a referendum.”

He said that no decision of the court can weaken his relationship with the masses.

It is being widely perceived among political circles that Nawaz Sharif seeks reversal of SC verdict against his disqualification through massive public support, and the latest string of mass contact with people is part of the plan.
