KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Monday took a swipe at the Sindh government for using force to quell a protest of Fixit activists against “deteriorating education system”.
On Sunday, police lobbed teargas shells and used water cannon to disperse the Fixit activists when they were trying to head towards the Governor’s House located in the city’s Red Zone area to protest against the poor quality of education in the province.
In a statement on Twitter, the PTI chief said, “Fixit’s peaceful protest against the deteriorating education system in Karachi gets a violent response from Sindh govt.”

He further said eight Fixit members were jailed in an “autocratic move” to deny citizens their democratic right to peaceful protest.
A day earlier, around 50-60 Fixit campaigners gathered outside the Karachi Press Club to protest against the provincial government over its failure to fix the problems facing the education system in Sindh.
When they tried to enter the Red Zone area, the police swung into action and fired water cannon and teargas shells to disperse the crowd of a few dozens. The police also resorted to baton charge to prevent the protesters from heading towards the Governor’s House.
