ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has adjourned the hearing of two petitions about the ongoing Faizabad sit-in till Thursday.

Earlier, the interior minister sought forty-eight hours’ time from the court to resolve the issue. Answering the high court’s query about the continuation of sit-in despite court’s order, the minister said that the government was trying to resolve the issue through peaceful means.

He said that an appeal through the newspapers had also been made to the protestors to call-off their sit-in and religious parties had also contacted the government to mediate in resolving the matter.

Later, talking to media, the interior minister said that a meeting of Islamic scholars had also been convened for consultations on the issue. He added that the government was alive to the sufferings of people of the twin cities and expressed confidence that some breakthrough might be possible within 48 hours.
