LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday claimed the arrest of an alleged human smuggler from Gujrat linked with the Turbat killings.

On Nov 15, bodies of 15 men from Punjab were recovered from Kech in Balochistan’s Turbat district.

On Nov 17, five more bullet-ridden bodies were discovered from near the Baran Hostel, Heeok-Tajaban tehsil in Turbat.

It was revealed that the deceased were being illegally transported to Europe through Iran for jobs.

FIA Deputy Director Khalid Anis said that Sohail Shakeel had been taken into custody over charges of facilitating the illegal journey to Germany via Turbat, during which five labourers had been killed by terrorists.

Anis also revealed that Khalid’s brother Humayun resided in Germany where he ran a human trafficking business in facilitation with the arrested suspect.

In addition, the FIA has claimed to have arrested a key human trafficker linked with the Turbat killings in Quetta.

Anees stated that human trafficker, Sadiq alias Talib, was detained on a tip-off provided by his under-custody cohort Waheed.

The detainee posed himself to be an Iranian national and he used to take Pakistanis across the Iran border. The victims of Turbat massacre belonging to various cities of Punjab stayed with Sadiq at Quetta who then transported them to Turbat.

“Waheed had handed over one of the Turbat victims, Zulfikar, to Sadiq in Quetta,” he explained.
