PESHAWAR: In a bid to force the political administration of South Waziristan to release Malik Jalat Khan Wazir, a student of Peshawar University, a large number of students on Sunday staged a protest demonstration in front of Peshawar Press Club.

Students from various departments of Peshawar University, along with students from different colleges and institutions of the provincial capital staged the protest rally on the call of Waziristan Students Society.

Amidst chanting slogans against the political authorities of South Waziristan and the infamous black laws of Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR), the protesters assembled in front of the Peshawar Press Club. Besides, Waziristan Student Society President Anwar Khan also addressed the protesters.

Speaking on the occasion, Anwar Khan urged the political administration to release Jalat Khan. He said that in case the arrested student was not released, similar protests would also be held in Wana, Tank, Islamabad and in front of the Peshawar Governor House.

He said that continuous detention of Jalat Khan was not only a violation of the infamous black laws of FCR but was even detrimental to basic human rights. He urged human rights and political activists throughout the country to support them in their just struggle.

Anwar Khan recalled that on the grounds of territorial responsibility, political administration of South Waziristan had detained a large number of tribesmen from Wana in South Waziristan. Later the tribesmen paid Rs 6 million fine, after which around 50 detainees were released by the local administration. However, Jalat Khan was still imprisoned by the local administration. The student society president urged the political agent of South Waziristan to order early release of Jalat Khan.
