FixIt founder leads protest over poor quality of education

Social activist and FixIt founder Alamgir Khan on Sunday led a group of protestors over poor quality of education outside the Karachi Press Club.

The protestors intended to speak with Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair regarding the dire state of education in the province.

The protestors were not allowed to move towards the governor house after police used a water-cannon and tear gas to disperse the crowd.

As a result, around 10 protestors were taken arrested by police while trying to enter the red zone. A case was also registered against them in the Artillery Maidan Police Station.

According to Saddar Superintendent of Police Tauqeer Nazim, cases registered against Alamgir Khan and other protestors included violation of the red zone and throwing stones at the police deployed in the area.

It is important to mention here that Alamgir was arrested earlier this year on April 2 while protesting against alleged misconduct of police outside the Karachi Press Club. The cases registered against Alamgir and other protesters back then, included attempts to enter the Sindh Chief Minister House to register their complaints.

The FixIt campaign started by Alamgir was aimed to cover all manholes in the port city. His claim to fame came during his spray-painting campaign where he painted pictures of then Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah on open manholes and garbage dumps. The campaign was launched to draw the attention of the officials concerned towards the many administrative issues that plague the metropolis.
