LAHORE: The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) in a letter directed to Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif outlined the discriminatory behaviour of the provincial government and demanded benefits at par with the rest of departments in the province.
PHP was created during the administration of Pervaiz Elahi and was tasked with making the highways more secure. According to the letter, the PHP suffered heavily after the new provincial government of Shehbaz Sharif took over. Initially, the salaries of the force, as well as fringe benefits, were lucrative, enough to cajole even Mphil and PhD holders to join the however in recent years even the daily allowances have been struck off for PHP.
The letter further stated that there was a systematic effort to tarnish the name of PHP with baseless allegations of corruption and misuse of security vehicles being levelled by the provincial administration.
The letter also stated that every law enforcement department in the province, with the exception of PHP, was liable to receive law and order allowance amounting to Rs3,100 which was a discrimination against the department.
PHP in the letter have implored the CM to take notice of the issue and make sure that victimisation of the force was stopped at the earliest.
