KARACHI: An Accountability Court on Saturday rejected application of former information minister Sharjeel Memom and others seeking the court to scrap the reference against them and not to indict them in the Rs5.76 billion corruption case.
Sharjeel and other accused have filed application in the court pleading it not to indict them in the Rs5.76 billion corruption case and scrap the reference. The court had reserved its order on the plea. On Saturday, when the court resumed the hearing of Rs5.76 billion corruption reference, the court pronounced it reserved order.
The court rejected the accused plea to scrap the reference and set Nov 24 for indicting the accused in the case. During the hearing, Sharjeel Memon’s counsel filed an application in the court. Upon this, the judge remarked that Sharjeel continued to be ill.
The counsel replied that he was being discriminated against. He urged the court to seek report from the doctor treating him, adding that on the basis of these reports his client be provide treatment facilities. Upon this, the judge remarked that some accused went straight to hospital from the court.
The court sought medical report of Sharjeel Memon from jail authorities. The court adjourned further hearing of the case till November 24.
