Boxer Amir Khan has admitted to feeling “embarrassed” about his public spat with wife Faryal Makhdoom, British media reported.
Speaking for the first time about the episode, Amir said: “I think if you look at the whole situation, it was all just silly, starting with the texts, and then when I accused her of messaging Joshua, it was all just nonsense really from the start.”
The couple had been having issues for some time, with Faryal claiming that Amir’s family had mistreated her and her daughter and that Amir was involved with other women and was not a good role model.
However, Amir has said, they sat down to speak over the matter and decided they had to fix the issue for their kids, three-year-old Lamaisah and the one who has yet to be born as Faryal is pregnant.
Amir called it a wake-up call, saying he was wrong to put his life on social media saying “That’s part of life. You always make mistakes and it’s about coming through them and not making the mistakes again. I made a few silly mistakes. I did put my life on social media; I assumed things which were wrong. So I kind of embarrassed myself.”
Nevertheless, the boxer, 30, has said they have put everything behind and are now moving forward as ‘one big family’. The couple even stayed at the Khan household last week before Amir headed to Australia for a reality television show.
Amir added, “Being a father makes you realise in life you’ve got commitments. Everything you’re doing, you’re doing it for your family. It’s definitely going to change me again and make me work hard in my sport. I’ve been out of the ring over a year now so this is only going to give me more motivation to shine again.”
Amir also claimed that there are no hard feelings with Joshua and that, “We laugh about it now.”
