KARACHI: As many as nine more chikungunya suspected cases have been detected from Karachi city, taking the number of reported cases to 3,994 in the city since January 1, 2017.
According to the report issued by the Sindh Health Department, a total 4,724 Chikungunya suspected cases have been reported throughout the Sindh province out of which 3,994 were emerged from Karachi and 730 from other districts of province. A total 86 chikungunya suspected cases have been surfaced in the city this month so far.
The chikungunya is transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes and the major symptoms include high fever, joint pain, joint swelling, rash, headache, muscle pain, nausea, and fatigue. The chikungunya is rarely fatal, while the death rate of the disease-affected people is less than one percent.
In 2016, a total 405 Chikungunya suspected cases had been reported from Karachi.
