LAHORE: Former federal minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) member Nawabzada Ghazanfar Gul on Friday announced that he was joining the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Ghazanfar Gul had an association of 30 years with the PPP. He was a close aide of the late prime minister Benazir Bhutto and had won seats from his constituency of Gujrat in both national and provincial assemblies.
Talking about his decision to leave PPP, Ghazanfar Gul held Asif Ali Zardari responsible for his departure, but at the same time stated that he had no grudges or grievances with the party.
In a veiled criticism of Zardari, Gul said that he was a “Majawar” (devotee) of Garhi Khuda Bux but couldn’t become a couturier of Nawab Shah.
When asked when he would be formally joining the PML-N, Gul said that he was in PML-N unconditionally and with his own free will and that there was no need of a formal announcement as he was not going to tie the knot.
Gul, a rival of the Chaudhrys of Gujrat in local politics, said that PML-N was emerging as an anti-establishment party under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif.
Gul further accused PPP of trying to enter the establishment’s tunnel and predicted that PPP would evaporate even from Sindh if it became the establishment’s party.
