ISLAMABAD

STAFF REPORT

Quaid-i- Azam University (QAU) School of Politics and International Relations Assistant Professor Dr Ahmed Ijaz Malik has been awarded Higher Education Commission (HEC) Outstanding Research Award for years 2015-16, for authoring a book, titled “US Foreign Policy and the Gulf Wars: Decision Making and International Relations.”

This book received the award for the best book published in the discipline of social sciences during 2015-16.

Dr Malik’s book is the first detailed work on the theories of international relations by a Pakistani author and developed an original theoretical approach by engaging in post-Cold War and post-9/11academic discourses.

In addition to contributions in philosophical and theoretical domains (qualitative), the book also presented a systematic and scientific quantitative research methodological approach for researchers to conduct research, prepare document and provide discourse analyses, which were influential contemporary methodological approaches in the discipline of international relations.

This book contributed to the leading theoretical traditions of international relations such as realism, neoliberalism, neoconservativism, cosmopolitanism and constructivism, while presenting a critical evaluation of US foreign policy in the Middle East in the post-Cold War era.

The publication also persuasively supported the theoretical arguments with empirical and factual data.
