LAHORE: Punjab Blood Transfusion Authority (PBTA) Secretary Dr Mohammad Athar on Friday visited Gujranwala and Mandi Bahauddin and upon inspection sealed various blood units of public and private sector.
The inspecton was carried out on the instructions from Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education Minister Salman Rafique.
The PBTA secretary took serious notice of provision of poor quality of blood to the patients. Dr Athar also issued directions for immediate improvement of life line blood bank Mandi Bahauddin. During the visit of Gujranwala, the Secretary PBTA has shutdown and sealed the Jinnah Blood Bank and Al Qaim Blood bank immediately.
Shatik Blood Bank Services at Mandi Bahauddin was closed due to substandard practices and all blood transfusion activities were stopped immediately. The registration of Shatik Blood Services was also cancelled.
Poor quality blood bags from both units were taken into custody to be discarded. Directions were issued to other public and private blood units. The PBTA secretary reiterated that the authority will continue its efforts for improvement in provision of the safe and healthy blood across the province.
