Dr Asim Hussain on Friday was removed by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto from the presidency of the Karachi division, apparently due to his ill health and ongoing treatment.
A press release issued by the party stated that PPP chief appreciated his services for the party and that he would be given a new and important assignment upon his return after the completion of his medical treatment abroad.
The PPP chairman, in a statement, said,”Dr Asim Hussain worked dedicatedly for PPP as Karachi Division president, despite poor health deteriorated [sic] during his incarceration.”
It merits mentioning here that an English newspaper, quoting anonymous sources, said that internal rift within party’s Karachi division compelled Hussain to tender his resignation from the post of division president, and that an impression was being given that he was going abroad for medical treatment.
Earlier, on Thursday the Supreme Court ordered the Interior Ministry to strike Hussain’s name off the Exit Control List (ECL), allowing him to travel abroad for medical treatment.
