LAHORE: Qurram Hussain’s composition for the upcoming film Rangreza, “Bagiya”, was well-received and lauded by the audience. Another song by the JoSH band’s lead singer and music composer has also been included in the musical to add melody to the romance between lead protagonists, Urwa Hocane and Bilal Ashraf.

The second song, a qawaali titled “Janasheen”, is expected to be unveiled next week.

Qurram aka Q has produced four albums for his JoSH band, jingles for a leading cell-phone company (Samsung), a track for an Indian film, along with a couple of OSTs for Pakistani dramas. However, Rangreza will be his first Pakistani movie as music director and playback singer.

The “Mahi Ve” singer says that he wrote ‘Janasheen’ a couple of years ago, and the song’s theme is all-consuming love.

“Because of this, I tried to try to produce it like a qawaali as I felt that would fit with the emotion of the song best,” he added.

Sharing the story of Janasheen’s inclusion in movie, Qurram said that when the director of Rangreza Amir Mohiuddin heard the track, he immediately took a liking to it.

Qurram also revealed that he had not produced a qawwali style track before, so in order to do justice to it, he worked with a couple of great producers in Lahore including Sohail Abbas and Imran Khalil, both of whom had experience in this genre, so together they found a balance of the real essence of a qawwali combined with the slightly modern writing and sound that he wanted to achieve.

Janasheen is a labour of love that has been years in the making, and I am so happy it’s found a home in Rangreza,” said Qurram.
