ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police registered another case against the followers of religious parties who have staged a sit-in on the outskirts of the federal capital after the protesters clashed with security officers in Islamabad on Thursday
The protestors have staged the sit-in against a change in the Khatm-i-Nabuwwat oath in the Elections Act 2017.
Following the clashes, Rangers were deployed near the F-8 barrier, that is already being heavily guarded by police and Frontier Corps personnel. Moreover, police also placed more containers on the capital’s main highway, blocking the road from both sides in order to deter protesters from entering the city.
The area between Faizabad to Zero Point has also been sealed.
Members of religious parties led by the Tehreek-e-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLY) and Sunni Tehreek (ST) clashed with security personnel at around 4 am on Thursday morning. The protesters pelted stones on security personnel in which three FC personnel were injured.
So far, 15 cases have been registered against the protesters, including cases for the death of a child, violence against a TV channel’s crew and violation of Section 144. 27 people have also been arrested so far.
Religious parties have been protesting a lack of punishment for those involved in making changes to the Khatm-i-Nabuwwat declaration for electoral candidates, which the government insists was a result of a clerical error and has since then been reversed.
