Lawyers boycott courts to protest SP’s murder in Quetta

QUETTA: The legal fraternity on Thursday boycotted judicial proceedings against the murder of Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigation Mohammed Ilyas.

SP Investigation Mohammad Ilyas and three members of his family were killed in an attack in Quetta’s Nawan Killi area on Wednesday evening.

SP Ilyas’ wife, son and grandson were also martyred in the attack. Their funeral was held on Thursday after Zuhr prayers.

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdul Razzaq Cheema, the victims were heading somewhere on a vehicle when they came under attack by unidentified gunmen.  He added that the attackers then fled on their motorcycle.

Police officials reached the crime scene soon after the attack and started the investigation.

The FIR of the incident has been registered on the complaint of the SHO at the Zarghoonabad Police Station.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi strongly condemned the attack and prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls.

SP Ilyas is the second senior police official assassinated in Quetta during the week.

Last week, a senior police officer was among three other police officials were martyred in a suicide attack on Quetta’s airport road.
