CM Khattak directs probe into ‘girl paraded naked’ incident

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said that directives had been issued to Inspector General Police to investigate the Dera Ismael Khan girl’s case on merit.

On the morning of October 27, a group of men accosted an orphan girl, stripped her and dragged her along the ground before making her parade on the streets naked for an hour.

Talking to MPA Meraj Humayun Khan, chairperson of Women Parliamentary Caucus at KP Chief Minister Secretariat, the chief minister said he was personally monitoring progress in the case on daily basis, as he assured Meraj of justice in the case.

MPA Meraj Humayun called on CM Khattak to discuss DI Khan incident.

On November 10, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Dawar Khan Kundi had called for the removal of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Revenue Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for providing “logistic and physical support to the criminals” involved in parading an orphan girl naked in Dera Ismail Khan.

Dawar wrote that “The notorious activities of Ali Amin Gandapur are a source of providing a bad name to the party as a whole.”

He furthered added, “You must ask KP Chief Minister Parvez Khattak to remove Gandapur from his ministerial portfolio and ask forgiveness from the bereaved family.”  However, Imran Khan had not responded to the letter as yet.

According to police, the girl’s brother had an affair with a woman. After learning about it, the village council ruled that the woman’s family could get even by disrespecting his sister.

The police took notice of the issue only after it had sparked an outrage on social media.
