GUJRANWALA: Despite the cruelty of the deed, the number of cases pertaining to abuse of special children has been on the rise and in a footage leaked recently, a bus driver and conductor can be seen abusing special children near Gujranwala on Thursday.
The sad incident took place in Sambrial and the leaked footage was shot inside a bus belonging to an education centre for differently-abled children. The bus driver named Muzammil and conductor Mazhar Hussain can be seen beating and abusing the children with special needs.
The incident comes in the wake of a similar incident that happened in Lahore and involved bus conductors abusing young children.
After the news broke in media, Regional Police Office (RPO) Sultan Azam Taimuri took notice of the incident and ordered an immediate enquiry into the case.
As per the latest development, bus conductor Mazhar Hussain has been arrested.
Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the district police official (DPO).
The chief minister has ordered an investigation to be conducted with regard to the incident and said that legal action be taken against the responsible persons.
Lahore High Court Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah on Thursday also took notice of the incident.
The chief justice heard the application in this regard in Government Officers’ Residences (GOR) camp office on Wednesday night.
Mansoor Ali Shah has ordered the inspector general of police (IGP) to appoint two unarmed constables on every bus of special children. Moreover, he sought reports from the district coordination officer (DCO), district police officer (DPO), and special education secretary in this regard.
