KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Wednesday unveiled the party’s official logo to celebrate its Golden Jubilee Foundation Day on Nov 30.

Arrangements are underway for a party rally to be held in Islamabad to mark PPP’s 50th anniversary.

Since its formation in 1967 by former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the PPP has been voted into power on five separate occasions (1970, 1977, 1988, 1993, 2008). It dominated the  Pakistani political sphere during the 1970s, however, suffered a temporary decline during the military dictatorship of Ziaul Haq who dismissed the Bhutto-led government but was also perceived to be involved in the controversial decision against the party leader, resulting in Bhutto’s  hanging.

Speaking at a press conference on Oct 13, PPP leader Chaudhry Manzoor said: “PPP has survived four martial laws and remained firm in its vision”, adding that PPP envisions serving the people of the country as it has been doing over the years.

Following Bhutto’s demise, the party was led by his wife, the late Nusrat Bhutto.

Later, his daughter Benazir Bhutto took the reins of the party affairs until her tragic assassination at Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh on Dec 27, 2007.

The party is now being led by Benazir’s son, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
