LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif has said that politics is not some sort of gimmickry but is based on selfless service to the people, adding that the public have defeated such elements at every front who have given a bad name to politics.
The CM said that objectives of these political elements have remained unsuccessful in the past and would not be allowed to succeed in the future as well. The elements indulged in spreading anarchy, falsehood and leveling of allegations have no concern for the public welfare, he added.
CM Shehbaz also said that the politicians who were devoid of public service have only wasted the precious time of the people. These elements who have erected obstacles in the way of national development would be made accountable for their negative behavior, he said, while adding that these tricksters would again face defeat in the general elections of 2018 as the people would reject the negative politics of opponents of development.
The chief minister further said that the elements demanding early elections were unnerved over the speedy development of the country. He said that the same people have failed to deliver in their own provinces, though they made promises of bringing positive change in the country.
Shehbaz said that when the nation was caught in a quagmire of serious problems, these people were involved in spreading negative politics, adding that it was quite worrying that these political elements have always given preference to their personal interests over anything else.
Furthermore, he said that loot and plunder of former corrupt rulers had increased the problems of the people, as the poor nation was looted without any mercy.
The chief minister also said that corruption, loot and nepotism have become a story of the past, especially in regard to development projects. The government had promoted transparency in development schemes and the PML-N had rendered countless services for national prosperity, he added.
The services of the PML-N leadership are unforgettable and the targets of development have been achieved during the tenure of the present government, the CM said. He regretted that the national economy was ruined by corruption and plunder in the past, saying that the PML-N government had restored the sagging economy through timely measures.
Moreover, Shehbaz said that was a historic achievement of the PML-N for putting the country on the road to development by getting rid of the economic deficit. The pivot of the strategy of the PML-N was welfare and prosperity of the common people, adding that this party had burnt the midnight oil to ensure a prosperous future for the country.
Other prominent persons present on the occasion, included members of National Assembly Khalid Javed Warraich, Dr Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti, Ghulam Bibi Bharwana and Sardar Ashiq Hussain Gopang.
