ISLAMABAD: Ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, in an informal meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Punjab House on Wednesday, decided to fight on for the sanctity of vote, provision of justice and implementation of rule of law.
According to reports, the consultative meeting was held to discuss the new delimitation bill, that will pave the way for the general elections next year, future political and legal strategy in wake of Sharif’s appearances in the accountability court, as well as Nawaz’s plans to launch a mass mobilisation campaign.
As per reports, Nawaz’s daughter Maryam and senior party leaders, including National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, PML-N Chairman Senator Raja Zafarul Haq, Federal Railways Minister Saad Rafique, State Interior Minister Talal Chaudhry, State Power Minister Abid Sher Ali and Senator Jafar Iqbal, attended the meeting.
In addition, Attorney General for Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf Ali, Advocate Khawaja Harris and other members of the PML-N legal team met the ousted prime minister to discuss the accountability process and the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case.
It was decided during the meeting that after being exempted from appearing before the accountability court, Nawaz will depart for London to take care of his ailing wife, Kulsoom Nawaz.
Earlier, Nawaz held a meeting with Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai after appearing in the accountability court hearing. He also met with the vice president of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mirza Ishtiaq Baig, who announced his decision to join the PML-N.
Later, the PML-N president met National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and discussed the proposed delimitation process and the recommended constitutional amendments.
The speaker briefed the former premier about the proceedings of the National Assembly session on Tuesday.
Maryam also held meetings with the PML-N leaders to discuss the upcoming Abbottabad rally, scheduled to be held on Nov 19, which will mark the start of PML-N’s countrywide mass contact movement.
According to sources, Maryam told the party members and leaders to speed up the public contact campaign and mobilise the workers.
