KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar said on Wednesday that it was a top priority of the city’s administration to make the city’s roads and flyovers bright and beautiful, and that measures should be taken for rehabilitation of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) asphalt plant.
He was addressing a meeting of the electrical and mechanical (E&M) department, attended by city council committee E&M chairman Khaliduddin, city council parliamentary leader Aslam Shah Afridi, lands committee chairman Arshad Hassan, works director general Shahab Anwar and other officers.
The mayor emphasised that the E&M department should give importance to the suggestions given by the elected representatives for all uplift and maintenance works.
According to a progress report presented during the meeting, lighting arrangements were made on Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Haji Ibrahim Rehmatullah Road, Hasan Square Flyover, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Mai Kolachi Road and Shahrah-e-Faisal on the mayor’s directive.
Akhtar said that a proper monitoring system needed to be adopted in the E&M department to ensure prompt actions on complaints received regarding the E&M department. He also directed Shahab Anwar to conduct a survey of the site of the asphalt plant in Mehmoodabad and estimate the expenditure that would be incurred on its rehabilitation.
