Five held with huge quantity of drugs, gutka in Karachi

KARACHI: The police arrested five drug pushers, recovered a huge quantity of drugs and gutka during separate actions in different areas of the metropolis on Wednesday.

According to reports, the police during a raid in Jackson area of Karachi arrested a notorious drug peddler identified as Abdul Mateen and recovered drugs from his possession.

Meanwhile, the police during routine patrolling checked two suspects at site ‘B’ Railway crossing and recovered drugs from their possession. The suspects were arrested.

In a separate incident, a huge quantity of ‘gutka’ was recovered and two culprits were held during a raid in Malir Saudabad area.

Earlier on Tuesday, a bill to ban the manufacture, promotion and sale of gutka, manipuri was introduced in the Sindh Assembly (SA) in an attempt to control the availability of these harmful substances.

The Sindh Prohibition of Manufacture, Promotion and sale of Gutka and Mainpuri bill, 2017 was introduced by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Rubina Saadat Qaimkhani.

If the aforementioned bill is passed by the House, the manufacture and sale of gutka and Manipuri would be completely banned in the province and anyone who violates the law would be imprisoned for up to seven years or fined up to Rs100,000, or both.
