CM suspends orders of declaring Jati Umra camp office

PTI decries the notification declaring Nawaz Sharif’s residence the camp office

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif has suspended with immediate effect the notification to declare Jati Umra residence of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Nawaz Sharif as, ‘CM Punjab camp office’. The suspension comes hours after an order that declared that the Sharif residence will be used for official administrative tasks of the provincial administration.

It has been reported that the notification was reversed after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry denounced the order issued by Chief Minister Punjab office declaring Jati Umra residence as CM Punjab camp office.

In a statement, the PTI spokesperson vowed to raise the issue in the National Assembly. “The taxpayers’ money is being spent on a family facing high-profile corruption charges,” he stated.

It merits mention that earlier 180-H Model Town was declared as CM camp office in 2011. But the residence’s status was annulled after a written complaint by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Dr Yasmin Rashid accusing Maryam Nawaz Sharif and federal ministers of using the CM camp office for election campaigning.
