LAHORE: Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education (SH&ME) Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah said Tuesday that online monitoring system for ventilators in the teaching hospitals and specialised healthcare institutions have been introduced to ensure availability, functioning and rationale use of the ventilators for ensuring timely provision of this equipment to deserving patients. He said that the system would further improve the quality of emergency and intensive care unit services in the province.
He stated this while addressing a training workshop for the staff of the 40 teaching hospitals of the province, in connection with standard operating procedures (SOPs) for online monitoring system of ventilators.
The workshop was arranged by the Specialised Healthcare Department Strategic Planning Unit (SPU) at the auditorium of Children’s Hospital. Around 135 staff members from 40 hospitals attended the workshop. SPU Director General Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathor and his team of experts from Punjab Information Technology Board, along with Turkish consultant Dr Hassan Kagal, were also present during the workshop.
Professor Rathor said that the participating staff of the hospitals had been provided tablets and internet facility for monitoring and uploading the required data. He said that all the ventilators in the teaching hospitals would be linked to a single system. He further said that these ventilators have been categorised in two groups (Emergency and ICU). The monitoring staff would upload the name of the patient on the system, his attendant’s name and contact number with the help of tablet computers, he added.
He said that the nurses on duty in the emergency department or ICU would also upload the complete information regarding shifting of the patients on the ventilators and other such formalities.
Najam Ahmed said that introducing online ventilator system application was done to improve the system of the hospitals while ensuring provision of quality health services to the patients. He further said that the new system would help in reducing the complaints regarding the availability and functioning of the ventilators in hospitals. He also said that ventilator monitoring system would also point out the gaps in the system through which problems can redressed on a timely basis.
