MANCHESTER: Manchester United icon Ryan Giggs has joined a Vietnamese academy as youth director – with Paul Scholes potentially set to join him.

Giggs has inked a two-year deal as head of the academy at Promotion Fund of Vietnamese Football Talents FC (PVF). The Old Trafford legend will begin in his new role on November 20, while former teammate Scholes is reportedly set to join as technical adviser.

Giggs has agreed to a role that will see him responsible for coaching players, training coaches and participating in building and developing PVF to become the leading youth football training centre in Vietnam, in line with the famous football academies across the world, the PVF website declared.

The pair will be welcomed at the opening ceremony of PVF’s new training centre later this month. PVF’s senior side play in the second tier of Vietnam’s V League, and are based in Ho Chi Minh City – formerly known as Saigon.

Giggs had been linked with a number of coaching jobs since his brief spell as United’s interim boss in 2014. The 43-year-old spoke of his interest in taking the Leicester job following Craig Shakespeare’s sacking last month, and has also admitted being interested in taking charge at Everton.

“I think you look at those two teams, Leicester being champions two seasons ago, Everton being a fantastic club with a fantastic history, for me these are clubs I would be interested in,” he said. “However, there are a lot of coaches out there who would be interested in those positions,” he said.
