ETPB lands should be retrieved from land mafia: Hamdullah

LAHORE: Senate Standing Committee for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Chairman Senator Hamdullah said Tuesday that if needed, the committee will give its recommendations to the parliament in regard to retrieval of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB)’s lands occupied by the land mafia.

Talking to reporters after presiding over a meeting of Senate Standing Committee for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, the senator appreciated the efforts and hard work made by ETPB Chairman Siddiqul Farooq to enhance the performance of the department. Siddiqul Farooq had made the ETPB a profitable department, he added.

Hamdullah said that the establishment of Baba Guru Nanak and Gandhara universities was a commendable step for which the ETPB deserved full appreciation.

He said that three schools were being set up on 50 acres of land in Sukkur to ensure educational facilities for the poor and orphan children belonging to minority groups.

He also said that the occupied ETPB land should be retrieved so that these could be utilised to ensure social welfare programmes and other facilities for the minorities.

Hamdullah further said that those found guilty of embezzlement and corrupt practices in the ETPB would be brought to justice.

Senators Ashok Kumar, Professor Sajid Mir, Hamza, Gianchand, Baz Khan and other board officials also attended the meeting.
