Zardari major hurdle in new constituencies’ delimitation: Saad Rafiq

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said that former president and co-chairperson of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari is the major hurdle in carrying out the delimitation of new constituencies.

Talking to media in Lahore, he said that PPP is not hopeful of forming a government in the centre in next general elections, and advised its leadership to focus on rural areas of Sindh. “Next general elections would be held on time in the country but the delimitation of constituencies as per population census is necessary,” he added.

He also said that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) cannot make any constitutional amendment as it does not enjoy a majority in the Senate.  The minister said that PML-N wants upcoming general elections to be held on time, but added that some elements wanted to create hurdles in the democratic process which would fail.

Saad slammed PTI Chairman Imran Khan and said that opponents should not think about the dissolution of assembly before their due time. Talking about the judiciary, he said that PML-N had launched a country-wide movement for the supremacy and freedom of judiciary, and to create such a judiciary which makes decisions without any pressure and influence.

Commenting on the current political situation of the Karachi, he said that PML-N did not play any role in the prevailing conflict between MQM and PSP.
